SFV

SFV means Simple File Verification. These files are meant to check whether files are present and complete. If you downloaded something from a newsgroup, it is useful to know if the files (usually RAR files) are complete (i.e. they have not been damaged during the download process). This can be done with a SFV file.

An excellent program to use with SFV files is QuickSFV, but QuickPar also supports this file type. Since PAR2 is also used for file verification, SFV files are used less often nowadays.
