NewsReactor – Useful things to know
Binaries4all QuickJumpNow we have downloaded our first post, I think it is time to adjust the program to suit our needs. In this chapter I will discuss some important options.
Viewing incomplete posts
Sometimes it is important to show incomplete posts as well, because sometimes you have to download the incomplete files so that you can repair them with PAR2 files. We therefore have to change some settings in the Options menu. Click on Options to continue.Open the Advanced tab and check Show incomplete parts. This means that incomplete posts will also be shown.

Incomplete posts will be indicated by this smiley: ![]()
Adding multiple servers
If you have access to multiple servers, it would be wise to add these to NewsReactor. Even though the additional servers will be used for group updates, the maximum number of connections available will still be limited to six, simply because NewsReactor doesn not support more connections.
To add or adjust your servers, click the on Options button. Open the News Servers tab. You can see that the server we added during the configuration is shown below.

To add a server, enter its address in the upper field. Also provide a username and password if necessary and click on Add.

Our second server has now been added to the list.

Keep in mind that our first (default) server has to be at the top of the list. This is the server we want to use first for downloading. The server order can be changed by clicking Up or Down when a server is selected.
To test a server, click on Check.
Note that the group list will be downloaded from the first server. However, it is possible to add Usenet newsgroups manually, even if they are not available on your current server.Adding additional Usenet newsgroups
It is possible to add additional Usenet newsgroups to our list, of course. This can also be done in the Options menu. Once again, click on the Options button.
![]()
Open the Groups tab. This lists the groups we are already subscribed to.

To view the group list we already downloaded from our news server, click on Local File. If you want to download this list again, click on Newsserver. The list will now be shown.

To add a group, we follow the same method as we did during configuration. Just enter this name (or part of it) in the search field and select the desired group from the filtered ones. Then click on OK. Confirm by clicking on Yes. The Usenet newsgroup will be added to the list and is ready to be updated.
Limiting download speed (bandwidth)
NewsReactor also has the ability to limit the download speed. This can be useful when you want to save some bandwidth for surfing the WWW or for uploading or downloading using another program.
This option is located in the top right-hand corner of the main screen. Just check this option and enter a maximum speed.
In this example the speed will be limited to 50 kB/s.
Congratulations, you have reached the end of the NewsReactor tutorial. We hope you have learned a lot about using the program. If you have any further questions, please ask them at the Binaries4all forum!
